Indian religious leaders have unanimously passed a resolution seeking a ban on the People’s Front of India (PFI) at an interfaith meet held in New Delhi.

Leaders from various religious communities gathered for the conference organized by the All India Sufi Sajjadanashin Council (AISSC) to pass this resolution that sought a ban on PFI and other similar groups that are pursuing a divisive agenda.

The meeting was also attended by National Security Advisor Ajit Doval.

Syed Naseruddin Chishty, Chairman of All India Sufi Sajjadanashin Council said the condemnation of radicalization alone will not work anymore. The time has come to work on the ground and act against inimical forces.

“Slogans like Sar Tan Se Juda are enemies of both Islam and the nation,” he said, adding, if there is evidence against radical organizations like PFI, they should be banned,” Chishty said.

This dialogue aimed to have discussions among the representatives of different faiths about the growing religious intolerance in India.

Acharya Sushil representing the Jain community said: “If political leaders having ideological differences can come together and run a government, then religious leaders can also work together for the unity of people.”

Shia leader Kalbe Javad said that some people try to misguide the youth by using Jihad in the wrong context. “Jihad doesn’t mean terrorism. It means doing anything good with a purpose with all the strength at your disposal.”

The meeting was also attended by Maulana Asghar Imam Mehndi, Maulana Umar Ilyasi, Lokesh Mani, Swami Chandra Dev, Manjit Singh, Maulana Salman HasniNadvi, Maulana Kalbe Javad, Maulana Anjum Farid Chisti.

The meeting decided to organize events regularly at the state and up to the levels of districts, to spread the message of social and cultural harmony, and guide youth to aspire for being responsible citizens of India.

The Interfaith conference also decided to start an awareness program and motivate youth to cherish and follow the Indian Constitution.

The divisive role of social media platforms was also discussed and it was said that they were being used for promoting hatred against religions and their followers. The Government should take serious note and initiate appropriate measures to curb the menace.

It was also decided that targeting any God or Prophets in discussions on public platforms should be condemned.
