Teachers scam: ED arrests Bengal minister Partha Chatterjee

After over 24 hours of marathon grilling, the Enforcement Directorate (ED) officials probing the West Bengal School Service Commission (WBSSC) recruitment irregularities scam, finally arrested state minister and the Trinamool Congress secretary general Partha Chatterjee on Saturday morning.

The West Bengal minister was taken into custody following the recovery of Rs 20 crore in cash and 20 mobile phones from his close aide Arpita Mukherjee's residence on Friday.

Arpita Mukherjee has also been detained for questioning.

Chatterjee who is currently the state Commerce and Industries Minister was taken by the ED to its office at the CGO complex in Salt Lake in the northern outskirts of Kolkata for further questioning.

He was the Education Minister when the alleged scam took place.

The CBI is probing irregularities in the recruitment of teachers in the state, whereas the ED is investigating the money trail in the alleged scam.
