India will be invited next month to join the US-led PaxSilica grouping as a full member, US Ambassador-designate to India Sergio Gor announced on Monday shortly after assuming charge. He is expected to present his credentials to the President of India later this week.
Addressing an official gathering, Gor said the United States has launched a new strategic initiative aimed at strengthening and securing the global silicon and semiconductor supply chain.
“I am pleased to announce that India will be invited to join PaxSilica as a full member next month,” the ambassador-designate said.
Explaining the initiative, Gor said PaxSilica was launched last month as a US-led effort to create a secure, resilient and innovation-driven silicon ecosystem, spanning critical minerals, energy inputs, advanced manufacturing, semiconductors, artificial intelligence development and logistics.
The initiative seeks to deepen cooperation among partner countries across the entire silicon value chain, from raw material sourcing to high-end technologies and supply networks, he added.
Gor noted that several key nations have already joined the initiative, including Japan, South Korea, the United Kingdom and Israel. India’s inclusion, he said, would further strengthen the grouping, reflecting the country’s expanding role in global manufacturing, technology and innovation.
PaxSilica was formally launched at a summit in Washington DC, where the United States and partner nations—Australia, Japan, South Korea, the United Kingdom, Singapore and Israel—signed a declaration committing to cooperation in securing silicon-based supply chains.
According to the US Department of State, the initiative aims to reduce coercive dependencies, safeguard materials and capabilities essential for artificial intelligence, and enable aligned nations to develop and deploy advanced technologies at scale.
Describing the framework as a collaborative effort, the US State Department said PaxSilica is a “positive-sum partnership” focused on coordination among like-minded countries rather than isolating others.
