Professor Yogesh Singh has been reappointed as the Vice Chancellor of the University of Delhi, becoming the first person to hold the post for a second consecutive term.

Confirming the appointment, an official from the Union Ministry of Education said, "The President of India has reappointed Professor Yogesh Singh as the Vice Chancellor of the University of Delhi."

Singh, who first assumed office as DU Vice Chancellor in 2021, has secured a second term following changes to the university's governing statutes.

In 2023, the Centre revived a proposal that had remained pending for nearly a decade and approved amendments to the Delhi University statutes, allowing the reappointment of the vice chancellor.

Prior to the amendment, the Delhi University Act barred vice chancellors from being reappointed for a second term. The revised provisions paved the way for Singh's historic reappointment.
