The India Habitat Centre is set to host the Collegiate Theatre and Music Festival 2026, bringing together student performers from across various institutions to celebrate emerging artistic talent.

Conceived as more than just a performance platform, the festival aims to provide young actors, directors, writers, and musicians with an opportunity to experiment, collaborate, and showcase their work before wider audiences. This year, the event has attracted over 170 submissions from colleges and student groups, reflecting strong enthusiasm within the student community.

The festival also pays tribute to the legacy of renowned Kathak dancers Nalini Asthana and Kamalini Asthana, whose contributions continue to inspire young artists in the field of classical dance.

Speaking about the initiative, IHC Director K. G. Suresh said the festival is designed to empower students to take charge of their creative expression. He noted that the overwhelming response highlights the energy and imagination among youth today.

Suresh emphasised that theatre is not merely a form of entertainment but a powerful medium that can shape ideas and perspectives. Drawing from his own experiences with student theatre, he pointed out how engagement with the performing arts can significantly contribute to personal and creative development. He also highlighted the importance of music, describing it as a unifying force that builds continuity and connection.

Looking ahead, the India Habitat Centre plans to expand the festival’s reach by involving more colleges and theatre groups, aiming to build a more inclusive and dynamic collegiate platform.
