Antoine Griezmann is reportedly close to joining Major League Soccer side Orlando City SC, with a potential move to the United States expected this summer, according to Goal.com.
As per The Athletic, cited in the report, the Atlético Madrid forward has been granted permission to travel to the US to finalise the transfer, following weeks of speculation linking him with the MLS club.
Earlier reports had suggested that Griezmann was considering leaving the Spanish side by the end of February, but Atlético’s progression to the Copa del Rey final delayed his plans. The team is set to face Real Sociedad on April 19, and the veteran forward is keen to end his stint with a trophy.
Despite the primary MLS transfer window being closed, Griezmann is still determined to complete the move, which is expected to materialise after the conclusion of the European football season.
The 35-year-old has previously expressed his desire to play in MLS, citing his admiration for American sports culture. He has often been seen attending National Basketball Association games and has earlier been linked with clubs such as Los Angeles FC, Chicago Fire FC, and Inter Miami CF.
Griezmann’s arrival in MLS would significantly boost the league’s profile. A key figure for France national football team, he has scored 44 international goals, played a crucial role in winning the 2018 FIFA World Cup, and finished as runner-up in the 2022 FIFA World Cup.
He remains Atlético Madrid’s all-time leading scorer and has been named in La Liga’s Team of the Season on four occasions. Although he has experienced a dip in form this season—with six league goals and five in the Copa del Rey—his experience continues to be valuable for the club.
