Orleans
Indian shuttler Ayush Shetty exited the Orleans Open after a quarterfinal defeat on Friday.
The 20-year-old went down in straight games to Yudai Okimoto, losing 18-21, 9-21. Despite being the 2025 US Open champion, Shetty is still chasing his first title of the 2026 season, having struggled to progress beyond the early rounds in recent tournaments.
India, however, remains in contention with multiple quarterfinal matches ahead. In women’s singles, Isharani Baruah and Malvika Bansod are set to face each other, ensuring at least one Indian will move into the semifinals. Bansod’s best performance this year so far has been a round-of-16 finish at the India Open.
In another women’s singles quarterfinal, Tanvi Sharma will take on Natsuki Nidaira, aiming to reach her first semifinal of the year after a series of early exits.
In men’s doubles, the Indian duo of Hariharan Amasakarunan and M. R. Arjun will compete against Indonesia’s Leo Rolly Carnando and Bagas Maulana in the quarterfinals.
Bansod advanced to this stage after a hard-fought win over Malaysia’s Wong Ling Ching. Meanwhile, Tanvi Sharma secured her quarterfinal berth with straight-game victories, including a notable win over Thailand’s Supanida Katethong earlier in the tournament.
