Indian men’s team all-rounder Hardik Pandya surprised Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) Women batter Gautami Naik with a special congratulatory message after her match-winning half-century against Gujarat Giants in the ongoing Women’s Premier League (WPL) 2026.
Gautami, an uncapped Indian player, scored her maiden WPL fifty with a composed 73 off 55 balls, helping RCB secure a 61-run victory and register their fifth consecutive win of the season, maintaining an unbeaten run.
In a video shared on RCB’s official Instagram handle, Gautami revealed that Hardik Pandya is her cricketing idol and said she aspires to model her game on his calm approach under pressure. She added that Pandya’s temperament in high-stakes situations closely matches her own playing style.
Reacting to this, Pandya sent a video message congratulating Gautami on her first WPL half-century. He said he felt honoured to inspire young cricketers and encouraged her to stay disciplined, enjoy the game, and continue delivering strong performances for her franchise and the country.
Overwhelmed by the gesture, Gautami described the moment as a major milestone in her life. She thanked Pandya for the encouragement, praised his skills and personality, and expressed her desire to meet him and emulate his playing style. She also wished him success for the upcoming T20 World Cup 2026, hoping he would lead India to glory.
In the match, RCB posted 178 for 6 after being put in to bat, recovering from early setbacks through Gautami’s knock, along with useful contributions from Smriti Mandhana (26) and Richa Ghosh (27). Ashleigh Gardner and Kashvee Gautam claimed two wickets each for Gujarat Giants.
Chasing 179, Gujarat Giants were rattled early as Sayali Sathghare struck twice in the second over, reducing the hosts to 5 for 3. Despite a fighting 54 from Gardner, GG struggled to build momentum and finished at 117 for 8 in their 20 overs. Sathghare starred with figures of 3 for 21, supported by Nadine de Klerk (2 for 17) and Lauren Bell (1 for 23).
