Bangkok
Indian archers delivered a strong performance at the Asia Cup Stage 1 in Bangkok, securing two bronze medals and advancing to the finals in two team events on Wednesday.
The women’s compound team improved on its previous showing by reaching the final this time. The trio of Chikitha Taniparthi, Raj Kaur, and Tejal Salve edged past Thailand’s team 229-226 in a closely contested semifinal. They will now face Kazakhstan in the gold medal match.
In contrast, the men’s compound team fell short of defending its title despite a dominant qualification round. The experienced trio of Rajat Chauhan, Rishabh Yadav, and Uday Kamboj lost narrowly to Vietnam 233-234 in the semifinal after surrendering an early lead. However, they recovered to clinch bronze with a 234-232 win over Bhutan.
India also impressed in the recurve category. The men’s recurve team, comprising Devaang Gupta, Sukhchain Singh, and Juyel Sarkar, advanced to the final after a convincing 5-1 victory over Malaysia. They will take on Kazakhstan for the title.
Meanwhile, the women’s recurve team secured a bronze medal after defeating Malaysia 5-1. The trio of Ruma Biswas, Kirti, and Ridhi Phor put up a dominant display, improving on their previous edition where they missed out on the podium.
