American ski star Lindsey Vonn has returned to the United States after spending a week in a hospital in Italy, where she was treated for injuries sustained during the Olympic downhill at the Milan Cortina Games.
Vonn, 41, broke her left leg in a high-speed crash on February 8 and has since undergone multiple surgeries. Sharing an update on social media platform X, she said she had not been able to stand on her feet for more than a week and had remained immobile in a hospital bed since the accident. Despite this, she expressed relief at being back home and thanked medical staff in Italy for their care.
The former Olympic champion suffered a complex fracture of the tibia and has indicated that further surgery will be required in the United States as part of her recovery.
The crash occurred in Cortina d'Ampezzo, just nine days after Vonn ruptured the anterior cruciate ligament (ACL) in her left knee in another fall during a race in Switzerland.
