The tenure of former Bihar Cricket Association (BCA) president Rakesh Tiwari is increasingly being viewed as a defining phase in the revival of cricket in the state, according to an official release issued on Wednesday.

At a time when Bihar cricket was marked by prolonged instability, administrative disruptions and infrastructure deficits, Tiwari’s leadership focused on rebuilding systems, strengthening governance and restoring confidence among players and stakeholders.

Reflecting on the period, Tiwari said Bihar cricket has undergone a “visible and positive transformation,” pointing to stability, structured progress and strong performances by teams, particularly at the Under-19 level, which are now competing in the Elite Group. He stressed that the progress was the result of consistent effort and a long-term vision rather than quick fixes.

A key element of the turnaround was an emphasis on transparent, process-driven administration and merit-based selection, aimed at ensuring equal opportunities for talented players across the state.

Infrastructure development also emerged as a major marker of change. Upgradation work progressed at Moin-ul-Haq Stadium, envisioned as an international-standard venue, while the Rajgir International Cricket Stadium took shape as another symbol of Bihar’s growing sporting ambitions. District-level infrastructure expansion was also undertaken to decentralise access to facilities.

Amid these reforms, young batting prodigy Vaibhav Sooryavanshi has come to embody Bihar cricket’s new narrative. Tiwari described Sooryavanshi’s rise as proof of an emerging talent ecosystem, highlighting his discipline, temperament and ability to perform under pressure. He added that nurturing such players is crucial, as they inspire the next generation of cricketers.

Tiwari also noted that Bihar is witnessing a broader pipeline of young talent across age groups, with players making it to major platforms such as the Indian Premier League, underscoring the state’s growing competitiveness.

The resurgence is not limited to the men’s game alone. Bihar’s Senior Women’s Team has also emerged as a symbol of the state’s all-round sporting revival, with their recent triumph at Barabati Stadium in Cuttack on February 16 reflecting renewed strength and resilience.
