India’s T20I captain Suryakumar Yadav crossed the 4,000-run mark in international cricket during a crucial Super Eight clash against Zimbabwe in the ICC Men's T20 World Cup on Thursday.

The milestone came during a blistering cameo of 33 off just 13 balls, which included three fours and two sixes. Suryakumar scored at a remarkable strike rate of 253.85, adding momentum to India’s imposing total.

In 148 international appearances so far, Suryakumar has amassed 4,024 runs in 140 innings at an average of 34.10 and an overall strike rate of 146.80. His tally includes four centuries and 29 half-centuries, with a highest score of 117.

The bulk of his success has come in T20 Internationals. In 110 T20Is, he has scored 3,243 runs in 104 innings at an average of 37.27 and an impressive strike rate of 163.37, including four hundreds and 25 fifties. With these numbers, he stands among the top 10 highest run-getters in the format.

His ODI career has been comparatively modest, with 773 runs in 37 matches at an average of 25.76, including four half-centuries and a best of 72 not out. He has also featured in one Test match, scoring eight runs in his lone innings.

In the ongoing T20 World Cup, Suryakumar is India’s second-highest run-scorer, having accumulated 213 runs in six innings at an average of 42.60 and a strike rate of 138.31. His standout performance remains an unbeaten 84 against the USA.

Zimbabwe won the toss and opted to field. Sanju Samson (24 off 15) stitched together a 48-run opening stand with Abhishek Sharma, who returned to form with a fluent 55 off 30 balls, striking four fours and four sixes. Abhishek then shared a 72-run partnership with Ishan Kishan (38 off 24).

A late onslaught saw Tilak Varma (44* off 16) and Hardik Pandya (50* off 23) add 84 runs in just 33 balls for the fifth wicket, propelling India to 256/4 — the second-highest total in T20 World Cup history and India’s highest-ever score in the tournament.
