Vaishnavi Patil, Sweety and Ahilya Shinde on Monday secured their places in the Indian squad for the U23 World Championship after emerging winners in the selection trials conducted by the Wrestling Federation of India.
Maharashtra’s Vaishnavi Patil won the 65kg category, getting the better of Haryana’s Anjali in the final.
Parveen topped the women’s 50kg category, finishing ahead of Priyanshi of Madhya Pradesh, while Haryana’s Sweety emerged winner in 53kg, with Uttar Pradesh’s Doli finishing second.
Ahilya Shinde of Maharashtra won the 55kg category, followed by Haryana’s Kajal, while Delhi’s Neha Sharma claimed the top spot in 57kg ahead of Haryana’s Simran.
Haryana dominated the 59kg category, with Komal finishing first and Anjali second. Another Haryana wrestler, Neha, topped the 62kg category, with Delhi’s Nitika finishing runner-up.
Mansi Lather of Maharashtra finished first in 68kg, with Delhi’s Srishti taking the second spot.
Amruta Pujari of Maharashtra emerged winner in 72kg, beating Haryana’s Tanu Sharma, while Diksha Malik of Haryana got the better of state mate Manisha to top the 76kg category.
The U23 World Championship will be held in Las Vegas from October 12-18.
The WFI has decided to field separate teams for the U23 and senior World Championships, asking wrestlers to appear in the selection trials of either one of the two, keeping in mind the short gap between the two events.

The senior World event will begin in Astana, Kazakhstan from October 24.
