Muzaffarnagar
Police have conducted door-to-door verification in a Muzaffarnagar riot victims’ rehabilitation colony in Kairana town of Shamli district as part of an ongoing drive to identify illegal immigrants, officials said on Saturday.
The verification exercise was carried out on Friday in Nahid Colony, where around 300 families displaced during the 2013 Muzaffarnagar riots were resettled after fleeing villages including Lank, Bahawdi and Phugana.
During the drive, police teams verified Aadhaar cards, mobile numbers and family details of residents, officials said.
Circle Officer (Kairana) Hemant Kumar said the exercise was aimed at identifying any illegal Rohingya or Bangladeshi nationals residing in the area. “So far, no illegal immigrant has been found during the verification,” he told reporters.
Residents said they had already completed the required documentation process. Noor Hasan, a resident of the colony, said all families had filled out their Special Intensive Revision (SIR) forms and submitted them to the booth-level officer in Kairana.
Meanwhile, police in neighbouring Muzaffarnagar district have intensified verification in industrial areas, particularly focusing on labourers employed in factories, officials said.
Circle Officer Siddharth Mishra said police teams checked workers’ records at several paper mills and steel factories. Factory owners have been instructed to maintain updated registers containing complete details of all workers, he added.
Officials said the verification drives are part of a broader effort to ensure proper documentation and identify any illegal immigrants.
