Afghan TV anchor Beheshta Argand, who made history by being the first woman journalist to interview Zabiullah Mujahid, spokesperson o the Taliban, has left the country.

CNN reported that Argand, an anchor at Tolo News, an Afghan news network, made headlines with her interview of Mujahid two days after the group entered Kabul. Two days later, Argand did it again; she interviewed the surviour of Taliban's campaign against education for girls - Malala Yousafzai. It was the first time that Malala was interviewed by the Afghan media. Tolo highlighted the interview as a great scoop.

Argand's work was suddenly stopped following which she decided to leave Afghanistan, citing threats to her and other women journalists.

Argand corresponded with CNN and spoke of her experience over the past two weeks. In the end, she said, "I left the country because, like millions of people, I fear the Taliban."

Tolo's owner, Saad Mohseni, said Argand's case was reflective of the situation in Afghanistan. Mohseni said, "Almost all our well-known journalists have left. We are working like crazy to get new people in their place."

"We have a dual challenge of evacuating people because they feel unsafe," he said. Mohseni said in a column he wrote for Washington Post, "The Taliban was trying to present a liberal face to the world.

Beheshta Argand said, "The interview was difficult, but I did it for Afghan women."
