Abeerul Matlaq's Wabi Sabi brings gourmet veg-food to Saudi

The winds of change blowing over Saudi Arabia, the birth place of Islam, women are not only turning enterpreneurs but also converting offbeats ideas into successful business. Abeerul Mutlaq is one such woman. She is the founder of Wabi Sabi, the first vegan restaurant in Riyadh and in the entire of Saudi Arabia that offers non-meat food derived from the Asian and western cuisines.
 
According to Arab News, Abeerul Mutlaq also specialized in the real estate business and had been associated with the industry for 11 years before switching over to the food business. Her restaurant fills the gap in the Saudi food and beverage industry.
 
Due to massive developmental projects, Riyadh is home to many expatriates who like to experiment with food, and Abeer’s restaurant for vegetarians is a great hit with such people.

Earlier, she worked as Director of Human Resources and Administration at Al Mutlaq Real Estate Investment Company. She also oversaw the company’s overseas operations.
 
With a degree in psychology from the American University of Paris, Abeerul Matlak has also taken courses in yoga, life coaching, and nutrition, and has also studied holistic arts including hypnotherapy and the International Nutrition Network.
Abeerul Mutlaq is deeply influenced by Ayurveda, an ancient Indian way of medical healing that helped her understand the power of food and its connection between the mind and body. 
It was this experience that helped her incorporate vegetables into the diet that eventually inspired him to set up the Kingdom’s first vegan restaurant.

 

Abeerul Matlaq is planning to expand her food business by opening restaurants in the UAE’s cities of Sharjah and Dubai's Mardi area.
