The fifth edition of the India-Malaysia joint military exercise ‘Harimau Shakti 2025’ is underway at the Mahajan Field Firing Range in Rajasthan, running from December 5 to 18. The exercise aims to enhance interoperability, operational preparedness, and defence cooperation between the two armies.
According to the Indian Army, troops are engaging in a range of training modules, including Army Martial Arts Routine (AMAR), helicopter slithering, low-hover jumps from MI-17 helicopters, and counter-IED familiarisation through structured briefings and visits to specialised facilities.
The exercise also features joint weapon and equipment displays, highlighting company- and battalion-level special weapons and next-generation equipment. Physical fitness and team cohesion are emphasised through yoga sessions, sports events, and joint patrolling exercises.
As part of the ongoing modules, soldiers have been introduced to Counter-Insurgency and Counter-Terrorism (CI/CT) operations, with lectures, demonstrations, and joint patrol rehearsals to refine coordination, situational responsiveness, and mission planning. Ambush theory sessions, Command Post Exercises (CPX), and heliborne slithering drills are enhancing tactical planning and battlefield management under realistic operational conditions.
Progressive modules also include live firing, ambush manoeuvres, combat reflex shooting, and heliborne operations, aimed at improving proficiency in sub-conventional operations under Chapter VII of the United Nations Mandate. The exercise further strengthens mutual trust, professional bonds, and combined combat readiness between the Indian and Malaysian armies.
