The Indian Embassy in Doha on Friday issued an advisory for Indian nationals in Qatar amid escalating tensions in West Asia, providing guidance on transit, visas and travel options for those stranded in the country.
In the advisory, the Embassy said it has opened a registration link to facilitate temporary transit visas for Saudi Arabia for Indian nationals stranded in Qatar while in transit, provided they hold confirmed onward travel tickets from Saudi Arabia.
“Embassy of India, Doha, is opening a registration link to facilitate obtaining temporary transit visa for Saudi Arabia only for those Indian nationals currently stranded in Qatar on transit, provided they have confirmed tickets for travelling out of Saudi Arabia,” the advisory stated.
The Embassy also highlighted an announcement by Qatar’s Ministry of Interior extending all categories of entry visas that have expired or are about to expire by one month, effective February 28, 2026, subject to further extension depending on the evolving situation.
It added that the Salwa land border crossing to Saudi Arabia remains open for emergency exits from Qatar.
Indian nationals holding US, UK or Schengen visas — provided they have been used at least once — can obtain a visa on arrival in Saudi Arabia. Others wishing to travel via Saudi Arabia must apply for visas through regular procedures.
Applicants registering with the Embassy must provide copies of their inbound flight tickets to Qatar along with confirmed onward tickets from Saudi Arabia. The Embassy noted that at least 48 hours would be required to process such facilitation and that travellers must make their own logistical arrangements to reach the Salwa border and onward airports.
Amid the ongoing security concerns, the Embassy urged Indian nationals in Qatar to strictly follow the guidelines issued by the Qatari authorities, including staying indoors unless necessary and avoiding windows and exposed areas.
“Residents are advised to stay in safe locations, avoid unnecessary travel and keep away from exposed areas,” the advisory said.
The Embassy also noted that Qatar’s airspace remains closed and flight operations are temporarily suspended. Qatar Airways is expected to provide the next update on March 7 at 0900 hours Doha time.
Passengers were advised to stay in touch with their respective airlines for further updates.
