Abbas Araghchi said his recent visit to Islamabad was “very productive” and involved “good consultations” with Pakistan’s top leadership on negotiations between Iran and the United States aimed at ending the war.

Speaking on arrival in St. Petersburg on Monday, Araghchi said discussions focused on the future direction of talks and the conditions under which negotiations could move forward. A video of his remarks was posted on his Telegram channel.

He said consultations with Pakistan were useful for reviewing recent diplomatic developments and assessing how peace talks might proceed after earlier rounds failed to meet expectations.

According to Iran’s state news agency IRNA, Araghchi said progress had been made in earlier rounds, but the talks fell short because of what he described as excessive demands and a wrong approach from the American side.

Araghchi had travelled to Pakistan after visiting Oman, where he met Sultan Haitham bin Tariq al-Said to discuss security in the Strait of Hormuz and diplomatic efforts linked to the Iran-US conflict. He said Iran and Oman, as coastal states bordering the strait, needed close coordination to protect shared interests.

During his latest Pakistan trip, Araghchi also met Field Marshal Asim Munir amid uncertainty over a second round of direct talks with Washington.

Meanwhile, Dmitry Peskov said the Russian president was scheduled to meet the Iranian minister during his visit to Russia.

The first round of Iran-US peace talks, held on April 11 and 12, did not produce a breakthrough, leading to further diplomatic consultations with regional partners.
