Iran has proposed ending its chokehold on the Strait of Hormuz without addressing its nuclear programme, according to two regional officials familiar with the closed-door negotiations.
The proposal also seeks an end to the United States blockade on Iran, the officials said. The offer was reportedly conveyed to Washington through Pakistan.
However, the proposal is not expected to gain support from Donald Trump, who reportedly wants any broader agreement to include a permanent end to Iran’s atomic programme along with resolution of the Hormuz crisis.
“We have all the cards. If they want to talk, they can come to us, or they can call us,” Trump told Fox News Channel on Sunday.
