The Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps Navy has issued a fresh warning to United States, saying it is prepared to use unconventional methods if tensions escalate further.
According to Iranian state-linked media Press TV, Mohammad Akbarzadeh said the force had “surprise tactics” ready for the US in case of any new miscalculation. He added that the naval wing would deploy newly developed capabilities if Washington launched fresh military action against Iran.
The remarks come amid heightened military rhetoric and repeated claims by Iranian officials that their naval forces have upgraded equipment and strategies to counter foreign military presence in nearby waters.
The warning also coincides with a firm stance from US President Donald Trump, who has said negotiations with Tehran cannot move forward unless the nuclear issue is addressed directly. Trump also claimed Iran was pushing for the reopening of the Strait of Hormuz as soon as possible.
He further warned that if Iran acquired nuclear weapons, global security would be threatened. Washington’s response follows an Iranian proposal focused on a ceasefire in West Asia and restoring shipping through the strait while postponing talks on its nuclear programme, missile capabilities and sanctions.
Meanwhile, Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi has been engaged in regional diplomacy, including visits to Pakistan and talks with Russian President Vladimir Putin in St Petersburg.
Regional opposition has also grown. Leaders of the Gulf Cooperation Council meeting in Saudi Arabia reportedly criticised Iran’s actions over the closure of the strait and threats to maritime navigation, while calling for stronger military coordination and an early warning missile defence system.

Reports also suggest the US administration is considering a prolonged economic pressure campaign, including tighter maritime controls aimed at restricting Iran’s ports and oil exports.
