Nobel laureate Malala Yusufzai has called for the Islamic countries to intervene in the situation in Afghanistan where the Taliban have closed down the schools for girls raising a global outrage.
Speaking to the BBC world service, Malala, who became an icon of the Taliban’s misogyny, told Yalda Hakim that Islam is not against girls’ education and didn’t distinguish between the man and the women in matters of education.
“I have no idea as to what scripture the Taliban are reading; Islam doesn’t bar anyone from learning and getting education.”

She said the Islamic countries must intervene in the situation and save the Afghan girls from being denied the right to education in the name of Islam.
Malala said the Taliban were not only doing disservice to the women but also Islam.

it may be recalled that Malal Yusufzai was shot at in her head by the Taliban for daring to defy their dictats to not go to schools. She had to leave Pakistan and lives in exile in the UK.
