External Affairs Minister S. Jaishankar arrived in Mongolia on Monday as part of a four-day visit to Mongolia and South Korea, aimed at strengthening India's diplomatic and economic engagement with both countries.

Soon after reaching Ulaanbaatar, Jaishankar met Mongolian President Khurelsukh Ukhnaa and conveyed greetings from President Droupadi Murmu and Prime Minister Narendra Modi. The discussions focused on advancing cooperation across multiple sectors and building on the momentum generated during the Mongolian President's visit to India last year.

In a post on X, Jaishankar said both sides shared a common vision for expanding bilateral ties and agreed that spiritual friendship remains a cornerstone of the relationship between the two nations.

The External Affairs Minister also held detailed talks with his Mongolian counterpart, Battsetseg Batmunkh. The two leaders reviewed progress in ongoing development projects and discussed opportunities for collaboration in mining, clean energy, agricultural processing, education, security, cultural exchanges and multilateral platforms.

Highlighting the importance of the partnership, Jaishankar described Mongolia as both a "third neighbour" and a "spiritual partner" for India, reaffirming New Delhi's commitment to strengthening bilateral relations.

As part of his engagements, Jaishankar visited the historic Gandan Monastery, where he met Chief Abbot Khamba Nomun Khan Geshe Lharampa D. Javzandorj. He noted that the monastery continues to play a significant role in fostering cultural connections and people-to-people exchanges between India and Mongolia.

Jaishankar's visit to Mongolia will continue until June 23, after which he will travel to the South Korea for further diplomatic engagements. According to the Ministry of External Affairs, he is scheduled to meet senior leaders and hold discussions with his counterparts in both countries during the June 22-25 tour.
