ISLAMABAD

Controversial scientist of Pakistan's nuclear program Dr Abdul Qadeer Khan has passed away. 

Dr Abdul Qadeer Khan's lawyer Tawfiq Asif said that according to the family, he was not well last night.

He was taken to the hospital where he died on Sunday morning.

He said that Dr Khan's funeral would be held at Faisal Masjid today at 3.30 pm.

Tawfiq Asif said that Dr Abdul Qadeer Khan was an asset for the country.

He said that he had met Dr Abdul Qadeer Khan a few weeks ago in the presence of the Attorney General in connection with the ongoing case against his detention in the Supreme Court.

"Dr. Sahib has passed away due to grief." he said.

He was also shifted to hospital on September 1 due to ill health.

Two weeks ago, it was reported that he was recovering well, and family sources said that Dr. Abdul Qadir was in good health.

Dr. Abdul Qadeer Khan is the first Pakistani to receive 3 Presidential Awards.

Dr. Abdul Qadeer Khan was born in Bhopal in 1936. He migrated with his family to Pakistan in 1947.

Dr. Abdul Qadir received his engineering degree in 1967 from a university in the Netherlands.

In good health, Dr. Abdul Qadeer Khan received his doctorate in metallurgical engineering from a Belgian university. Dr. Abdul Qadeer Khan later joined the Physical Dynamics Research Laboratory in Amsterdam.
