In a last-minute diplomatic push ahead of a crucial ceasefire deadline, Donald Trump urged Iran’s leadership to release eight women reportedly facing execution, presenting the move as a potential confidence-building step before anticipated talks between the two sides.

In a post shared on Truth Social, Trump amplified claims made by social media activist Eyal Yakoby, who alleged that the women were at risk of imminent hanging and circulated images said to be of those individuals.

Addressing Iranian authorities directly, Trump appealed for leniency, stating that freeing the women would be seen positively and could help set the tone for upcoming negotiations. He emphasised that such a gesture could mark a constructive beginning to dialogue between Washington and Tehran.

The appeal comes as a US delegation led by Vice President JD Vance prepares for possible talks with Iranian officials in Islamabad. However, uncertainty continues to surround the diplomatic process.

While some reports indicate that Iran’s Supreme Leader Mojtaba Khamenei has authorised a team to travel for negotiations—hinting at a possible thaw—Tehran’s state broadcaster Islamic Republic of Iran Broadcasting has denied that any delegation has departed for Pakistan so far, reflecting conflicting signals within the Iranian establishment.

Despite the official denial, sources in Islamabad suggest preparations are underway for simultaneous arrivals of US and Iranian representatives, raising expectations of a potential diplomatic breakthrough. The proposed talks are expected to focus on a broad agenda, including reopening the Strait of Hormuz, easing sanctions, and working toward a long-term resolution to the ongoing conflict.

Tensions, however, remain high. Trump has warned of severe military consequences if the ceasefire collapses, while Iran’s Parliament Speaker Mohammad Bagher Ghalibaf has rejected negotiations conducted under threats.

With the ceasefire nearing its deadline, global attention is fixed on whether both sides will engage in direct talks. A decision by Tehran to release the eight women, if it happens, could serve as an early humanitarian gesture in a crisis that has pushed the two nations dangerously close to full-scale conflict.
