US President Donald Trump on Monday asserted that he is determined to bring the ongoing conflict with Iran to a decisive end, while maintaining that Tehran must never be allowed to develop nuclear weapons.

Speaking during the White House Easter Egg Roll, Trump suggested that the conflict could conclude swiftly if certain conditions are met. He indicated that the United States has multiple strategic options, including disengagement, but emphasised his preference for a definitive resolution.

Reaffirming his long-held stance, Trump said Iran’s nuclear ambitions remain unacceptable and warned against allowing such capabilities to fall into what he described as dangerous hands.

The US President also noted that diplomatic channels remain open, claiming that negotiations with Iranian representatives are ongoing and being conducted in good faith. He added that the current interlocutors on the Iranian side appear more pragmatic compared to earlier leadership.

Trump went on to suggest that Iran has undergone what he characterised as a form of “regime change” during the course of the conflict, arguing that newer leadership elements are less hardline and more open to dialogue.

He confirmed that Washington has received a proposal from Tehran aimed at ending hostilities, describing it as a “significant step” but insufficient in its current form. According to Trump, discussions are continuing as both sides attempt to reach a workable agreement.

Referring to past policy decisions, Trump reiterated his criticism of the Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action (JCPOA), the nuclear agreement negotiated under former US President Barack Obama. He defended his earlier decision to withdraw from the deal, arguing that it was necessary to prevent long-term instability in the region.
