Rajouri, a border town along the Line of Control in Jammu and Kashmir, is celebrating the extraordinary achievement of fourteen-year-old Mohammad Yasser, who has become the first boxer from the Union Territory to win a gold medal at the Under-15 Asian Boxing Championship.

Yasser delivered a remarkable performance throughout the tournament, culminating in a hard-fought 4–1 victory over Uzbekistan in the final bout. His journey to the title was marked by a series of dominant displays. He defeated Tajikistan 5–0 in the pre-quarterfinals, followed by another commanding 5–0 win against Kazakhstan in the quarterfinals. In the semi-finals, he outclassed Iran with a 4–1 victory before overcoming the host nation at Tashkent in the summit clash.

His triumph has been widely praised as a display of composure, technical brilliance, and fighting spirit under immense pressure.

BJP leader who hails from Rajouri hailed Yasser's victory through a post on X:

With this historic gold medal, Yasser has emerged as a symbol of resilience, determination, and hope. His inspiring journey from hardship to international success has touched people across Jammu and Kashmir and beyond.

A Class 9 student of Government Boys Higher Secondary School, Rajouri, Yasser’s rise is deeply rooted in perseverance and sacrifice. He lost his father in 2018, a tragedy that also deprived the family of their home and pushed them into severe financial hardship.

Since then, his mother, Naseem Akhter, has worked as a domestic helper in local households to support the family. Despite the difficult circumstances, she ensured that Yasser continued both his education and boxing training. Alongside his studies and rigorous practice sessions, Yasser also took up odd jobs to help support the household and contribute towards the education of his younger siblings.

Refusing to let adversity define his future, the young boxer continued to train with unwavering determination and gradually emerged as one of the most promising talents in the region.

His achievement is now being celebrated as a proud moment for Jammu and Kashmir’s sporting fraternity, highlighting not only his individual grit but also the growing potential of youth boxing in the Union Territory.

Meanwhile, the Rajouri district administration felicitated the young champion in an official statement, congratulating Mohammad Yasser for bringing laurels to Rajouri and the nation on the international stage.
