A Bengali couple celebrated their wedding in a rather unconventional way, yet set a beautiful example by donating blood to spread a message for saving lives.
The newlyweds, Masud Mondal and Sohana Mondal, from Chapra in Nadia district, were both laying on beds and seen donating blood as the guests arrived for their wedding reception.
Encouraged by their generosity, scores of people volunteered to donate blood. The relatives and friends acknowledged that Masud and Sohana have set a unique example of humanity by combining the joys of personal life with social service.
Masud and Sohana, both from Nadia, West Bengal, made the special day in their lives a golden opportunity to show their support for the people.
Starting a new chapter of their lives, they wanted many people in the community to share their joy.
Masud Mandol, however, is not new to social work. He has been involved with an NGO for a long time.
Masud has seen up close the tragic picture of patients being treated for lack of blood. Masud knows how helpless a patient’s family is during a blood crisis.
From that experience, he has appreciated the importance of blood donation. Therefore, he asked his wife Sohana to join him in extending a helping hand to people facing a crisis for lack of blood to save a life.
At the beginning of their new marriage, the couple combined their happiness with their determination to save lives.
"We have started our journey through blood donation on the first day of a new chapter in our lives. Our efforts will always be the same to stand by people every day of our lives If we can motivate more people to donate blood, our efforts will be worthwhile.

“Masud and Sohana’s thoughts are a positive message for the entire society. The call they spread to save lives through blood donation even in wedding attire will remain in society for a long time,” a guest said.
