Ruman Ashraf who topped 10th in Bihar wants to become Army officer

After Mohddasa of Araria in Bihar was declared the topper in the humanities stream of the Intermediate – a Board examination in the State - Ruman Ashraf of Sheikhpura has become yet another Muslim to achieve academic excellence by topping the State in the matriculation examination.

Ruman says he wants to become an officer in the army and serve the country. His dream is to join the National Defence Academy, Khadakvasla, Pune, Maharashtra.

Ruman Ashraf's father Najibur Rahman is a teacher in the government primary school of Ahiyapur, Sheikhpura urban area. The family hails from Chakandra village under the Chewada police station in the district. 

Ruman studied at Islamia High School, Sheikhpura.

Shamveel Haider, secretary of Islamia High School, says Rumaan was a quick learner and a student. He has not only brought laurels to Sheikhpura but also to the school. 

Ruman Ashraf has scored 489 marks out of 500. Ruman says that with support from school and his parents, he could prepare for the examination well. He studied for 5 to 6 hours every day at home.

He also used the internet to understand what he missed out on in school.

Ruman says there is no other way than to study hard for success. He did go for tuition for a brief period but mostly did self-study. His favourite subject is Sociology.

To fulfill his ambition of joining the Indian Army, he says he is filled with passion to crack the National Defense Academy examinations. Ruman's favorite subject is sociology. 

This year, 90 students are among the top 10 scorers in the matriculation examination held by the Bihar board of secondary education.

This list also includes 33 girls. Topper Mohd Rumman Ashraf got 97.8 percent (489) marks while second toppers Namrata and Giani Anupama got 97.2 percent (486) marks. Some 16 lakh students appeared in the examination and the result of the examination was declared in 37 days. A total of 4,74,615 students passed this examination in the first division. 5,11,623 in the second division and 2,99,518 in the third division.
