The Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) has activated its online portal for students seeking verification of discrepancies in scanned copies of their answer sheets and re-evaluation of board examination responses.

The facility, which became available on Tuesday, is open only to students who have already obtained scanned copies of their evaluated answer books. Applications can be submitted online from June 2 to June 6, with the deadline set for midnight on the final day. The board has clarified that requests submitted offline or after the stipulated period will not be entertained.

Students must access the portal through the CBSE website using Aadhaar-based authentication. The entire procedure, including fee payment, has been made digital.

The verification process allows candidates to report issues such as missing pages, omitted supplementary sheets, absent maps or graphs, blurred scans, incorrect answer books, or evaluation carried out against the wrong question paper set. Students dissatisfied with the marking of specific answers can also apply for re-evaluation.

CBSE has advised candidates to carefully review all requests before final submission and ensure that applications for all intended subjects are included in a single submission.

The board has fixed the verification fee at Rs 100 per answer book, while re-evaluation requests will cost Rs 25 per question. Payments can be made through online methods including UPI, debit cards, credit cards and net banking.

Students are permitted to submit only one application for answer book verification and one application for re-evaluation. Therefore, they have been urged to decide beforehand whether they wish to include one or multiple subjects in their request.

CBSE has cautioned that once applicants click the "Freeze and Proceed to Payment" option, no further modifications will be possible. Applications will be considered valid only after successful completion of the online payment process.

For re-evaluation, candidates may seek reassessment of one or more questions across different subjects by providing relevant details such as question numbers and page references.

The board said results of the verification and re-evaluation process will be communicated after the scrutiny is completed. Students have been advised to complete the process within the prescribed timeline to avoid missing the opportunity.

To assist applicants, CBSE has uploaded a detailed user guide and a video tutorial explaining the application procedure.

As an added security measure, Aadhaar verification has been made mandatory during the application process. In cases where a student does not possess an Aadhaar number, details of a parent, guardian or close relative may be used. However, the name, date of birth and gender entered on the portal must exactly match the Aadhaar details of the person whose number is being used.

The launch of the portal comes a few days later than initially anticipated. CBSE had earlier indicated that applications for verification and re-evaluation would likely begin by May 29.

The process has attracted attention following complaints from some students and parents regarding the On-Screen Marking (OSM) system, with concerns ranging from technical glitches and payment failures to difficulties in accessing the verification and re-evaluation facilities.
