Former Deputy National Security Advisor Pankaj Saran has lauded the recently released film Dhurandhar: The Revenge, describing it as a significant milestone for the Indian film industry. The movie hit theatres worldwide on March 19.
In a conversation with ANI, Saran commended the film’s technical finesse and its portrayal of events inspired by real-life incidents. He noted that director Aditya Dhar has successfully balanced storytelling with a cinematic style that aligns with global standards.
Expressing his personal view, Saran said he found the sequel even more compelling than its predecessor. While he felt certain action sequences were somewhat excessive, he emphasised that the film excels in production quality, craftsmanship, and overall execution. According to him, it sets a high bar that may be difficult for other filmmakers to surpass in the near future.
Saran also drew comparisons with traditional war films, particularly from Hollywood, pointing out that Indian cinema has often lagged behind in terms of technical sophistication. He said Dhurandhar: The Revenge stands out for its professional treatment and immersive storytelling.
He further observed that the film incorporates real names and incidents, adding authenticity to the narrative. At the same time, he defended the use of creative liberty, noting that exaggeration and dramatization are common in global filmmaking traditions and help enhance audience engagement.
Meanwhile, the film continues to perform strongly at the box office. Trade analyst Taran Adarsh reported that it has crossed the ₹800 crore mark following its second weekend in theatres, indicating sustained audience interest.
The film features Ranveer Singh in the lead role, alongside Arjun Rampal, R. Madhavan, Rakesh Bedi, and Sanjay Dutt. Yami Gautam also appears in a cameo role.
