Veteran actor and film producer Salim Khan exercised his right to vote at a polling station in Mumbai on Thursday during the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) elections.

Film director Rakesh Roshan was also spotted at a polling booth in the city, casting his vote. Several other notable figures from the film industry were present at polling stations across Mumbai, urging citizens to participate actively in the democratic process.

Polling is underway in 29 municipal corporations across Maharashtra, following an extended and competitive campaign. The elections are particularly significant for major urban centres including Mumbai, Pune, Nagpur, Thane, Navi Mumbai, Nashik, and Pimpri-Chinchwad.

In most areas, the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) and Shiv Sena are contesting together under the Mahayuti alliance, with the exception of Pune. Meanwhile, the Nationalist Congress Party (NCP) is contesting independently in many corporations, though both NCP factions have presented a joint manifesto in Pune and Pimpri-Chinchwad.

The State Election Commission reports that around 3.48 crore voters are eligible to participate in these polls. A total of 15,908 candidates are vying for 2,869 seats across 893 wards, with 39,092 polling centres established across the state to facilitate voting.
