The Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam (TVK), led by actor Vijay, on Saturday denied any scope for an alliance with the National Democratic Alliance (NDA) led by the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) in Tamil Nadu, dismissing reports of a possible electoral pact as media speculation.
However, state BJP chief Nainar Nagenthran declined to give a direct reply when asked by reporters whether discussions for an alliance with TVK were underway.
“You are worried about the alliance, and I am concerned about the people’s issues, especially the failure of law and order in the state and lack of safety for women,” Nagenthran told reporters.
Rejecting the speculation about talks with the NDA as “rumours,” TVK Joint General Secretary C T R Nirmal Kumar said the virtual meeting with the party’s district secretaries on March 13 was held only to assess organisational strength and possible alliance prospects.
“There’s no scope for an alliance with the NDA. We have already made it clear that the BJP is our ideological enemy,” Nirmal Kumar told PTI.

He also questioned whether, if the rumours were true, the BJP would be willing to accept Vijay as the chief ministerial candidate.
