World seminar on Ghalib begins Friday

New Delhi

An International seminar on Ghalib is set to begin from Friday under the auspices of Ghalib Institute. The inaugural session 'The New Creative Behavior of Contemporary Urdu Literature' will be held on March 11 at 5.30 pm in Aiwan-e-Ghalib (Ghalib Auditorium).

Dr. Idrees Ahmed, Director, Ghalib Institute told Awaz-the Voice said that the Institute, founded in the year 1969 and patronised by leaders like Dr Zakir Hussain, Indira Gandhi and Fakhrudddin Ali Ahmed, commemorates the works and life of the great Persian-Urdu poet.

He said, "Ghalib is one of the most loved poets of the world; his work is read and recited in many languages across the globe, though it's best when read in Urdu..."

Former Lieutenant Governor of Delhi, Najib Jang, will inaugurate the three-day seminar and Prof. Atiqullah, eminent Urdu critic and scholar, will present the keynote address and renowned Hindi scholar Prof. Vishwanath Tripathi will be in the chair.

On the occasion, the Ghalib institute will unveil its new publications and  launch new look of the website

Radhika Chopra, reknowned Ghazal singer will render Sham-e-Ghazal.

Research papers will be presented on 12, 13 and shall be available in printed form by mid of July. 

Aalami Mushaira (a poetic symposium) will be held on Saturday at 6pm followed by a play 'Mushair-e-Raftgaan', written and directed by Dr. M Sayeed Alam on Sunday at 6pm.

"We are hosting events after a long hiatus of more than 2 years, we are expecting a walking crowd of 400..", Dr.Idrees said

A book fair consisting stalwarts of Urdu publication like Sahitya Akademy, Ghalib Academy, Maktaba Jamia Limited, Anjuman Tarakki Urdu Hind along with many more are also set up for people to browse their favourite author books. The entry is free to all followed by a dinner for the participants.

Dr.Idrees in his closing remarks said,"I request the younger generation to learn Urdu, as it is the sweestest language of the east.."

 

DDMA on 25th of last month had curtailed all Covid related restrictions in Delhi following which theatres and other live events are all set to make a comeback on stage and auditoriums.
