The Assam Cabinet on Tuesday approved the vote-on-account statement placed in the state Legislative Assembly for the initial months of the 2026–27 financial year, Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma said.
Briefing reporters after the cabinet meeting, Sarma said the council of ministers also cleared the release of entrepreneurship seed capital to an additional 1,07,532 eligible beneficiaries under the Mukhyamantri Mahila Udyamita Abhiyaan scheme. The initiative, implemented by the Assam State Rural Livelihoods Mission Society, aims to strengthen self-help groups (SHGs) by promoting women-led enterprises across the state.
In a major decision concerning employment opportunities, the cabinet approved a proposal to extend a 3 per cent reservation for the tea tribes and Adivasi communities in Class I and Class II state government jobs. Earlier, the reservation was applicable only to Class III and Class IV posts.
The council of ministers also gave its nod to the establishment of a second Sainik School at Langvoku in Karbi Anglong district. Sarma said the Ministry of Defence has approved the detailed project report (DPR) for the proposed school.
Among other decisions, the cabinet approved the settlement of land in favour of the Assam Cricket Association in Dhemaji district to facilitate the development of sports infrastructure.
An allocation of ₹20 crore was also cleared for the project titled Construction of Integrated Development of Borbheti Campus, Jorhat, aimed at promoting sustainable, inclusive and heritage-based tourism in the region.
The cabinet further approved raising the earned leave entitlement for teachers under the school education department to 15 days, along with amendments to the Assam Revised Leave Rules, 1934. Additionally, amendments to the Assam Agricultural Service (Amendment) Rules, 2025 were cleared to relax the minimum qualifying service period required for promotions between cadres.
The decisions, Sarma said, reflect the government’s focus on inclusive growth, administrative reforms and infrastructure development across sectors.
