Mayureshwar
Union Home Minister Amit Shah on Monday said the people of West Bengal would respond to bombs and bullets with votes and bring a “double-engine” government led by the Bharatiya Janata Party to power in the Assembly elections.
Addressing an election rally in Mayureshwar, Shah said the BJP would end “mafia raj” in the state after winning the polls.
He alleged that people had decided to remove the government led by Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee and would answer violence through democratic voting.
Accusing the chief minister of attempting to intimidate the majority community, Shah said the election was also about removing infiltrators from Bengal and the rest of the country.
He further alleged that during the rule of the All India Trinamool Congress, riots had taken place in Murshidabad, attacks were carried out on Ram Navami processions, and Saraswati Puja celebrations were obstructed in some places.
Claiming the state had become a storehouse of bombs and bullets, Shah warned alleged TMC goons to stay indoors on polling day, saying action would follow after results on May 4.
He said the Election Commission of India had deployed sufficient central forces to ensure free and fair polls.
Shah also accused the state government of not providing land to the Border Security Force for fencing sections of the India-Bangladesh border, and promised that a BJP government would do so within 45 days.
Seeking support from women voters, he said they would be able to work freely at any hour if the BJP formed the government.
He also said the Uniform Civil Code would be implemented in West Bengal under a BJP government.

Shah alleged corruption had prevented people from receiving the benefits of central welfare schemes, and said a “double-engine” government would ensure central funds reached citizens and welfare programmes were expanded for women, youth and poorer sections.
