Bihar Minister Dilip Jaiswal on Thursday criticised Congress MP Rahul Gandhi, saying that “everything seems to be a drama” to him, and stressed that artificial intelligence is the need of the hour.
“Everything seems to be a drama to Rahul Gandhi… AI is a need of the hour all across the world, and India will not lag in this under any circumstances. When Rahul Gandhi says such things now, it reminds me of an era when people called computers nonsense,” Jaiswal said.
His remarks came amid a controversy at the AI Impact Summit, where Galgotias University was directed to vacate its expo stall following backlash over the display of a robotic dog.
The university had showcased the robot, named “Orion,” as part of its presentation. However, critics and social media users identified it as a commercially available Unitree Go2 model manufactured by the Chinese firm Unitree Robotics, triggering criticism online and offline.
Reacting to the issue on X, Rahul Gandhi shared a post by the Congress and wrote, “Instead of leveraging India’s talent and data, the AI summit is a disorganised PR spectacle — Indian data up for sale, Chinese products showcased.”
Following the backlash, Galgotias University defended itself. Professor Neha Singh, who appeared in a viral video explaining the RoboDog at the expo, said the university never claimed the robot as its own innovation.
“We have never claimed that it is ours, Indian, or Galgotian. Its main branding is still on it. The robot had come for a particular task related to students’ study and research and development. It was here for two days for projection, and that projection has been completed,” she told ANI.
