Cow vigilante Bittu Bajrangi was allegedly cheated of ₹30,000 by a man who promised to arrange his marriage, following which police have registered an FIR, officials said on Friday.

The case has been filed on the basis of a complaint lodged by Bajrangi, who is also an accused in the 2023 Nuh communal violence. Police said the FIR names the main accused and his associates, and an investigation is underway.

According to the complaint, Bajrangi had expressed his desire to get married to Bunty, a relative of his neighbour, and asked him to inform him if he came across a suitable match. Bunty later introduced him to a woman identified as Rani.

The complainant alleged that Bunty and Rani took him to Aligarh on three occasions to meet prospective brides, but none of the proposals materialised. Subsequently, Bunty shared a photograph of another woman whom Bajrangi reportedly liked.

On September 5, 2025, Bunty and Rani allegedly visited Bajrangi’s residence along with the woman and her family, following which the wedding was fixed for February 7. As part of the arrangement, Bajrangi transferred ₹30,000 to the accused on February 6 to purchase clothes for the bride, the complaint said.

However, when Bajrangi reached Aligarh with his wedding procession, the accused were allegedly untraceable and their mobile phones were switched off. “When I contacted the bride, she said she was unaware of any wedding, forcing me to return empty-handed,” Bajrangi stated in his complaint.

Police said the total amount agreed to be paid for arranging the marriage was ₹1.20 lakh. Based on the complaint, an FIR has been registered against Bunty, Rani and others at Saran police station under relevant provisions of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita.
