Siliguri
Suvendu Adhikari on Wednesday asserted that the newly formed BJP government in West Bengal would work in the interest of “nationalists” and remain committed to preserving Indian traditions and culture.
Addressing party workers at the BJP office in Siliguri during his first visit to north Bengal after taking oath as chief minister, Adhikari said the government would implement all promises mentioned in the party’s ‘Sankalpa Patra’ within a fixed timeline.
He claimed that people had already started receiving the benefits of several commitments announced in the BJP manifesto ahead of the West Bengal assembly elections.
Among the key decisions announced by the new government are the launch of the Annapurna Yojana and an increase in financial assistance for women. Under the scheme, women will receive Rs 3,000 per month, double the Rs 1,500 provided earlier under the Lakshmir Bhandar scheme introduced by the previous government led by Mamata Banerjee.
The government has also announced free travel for women in state-run buses and the implementation of the Ayushman Bharat scheme in the state.
“We want a government that fulfils the aspirations of the people,” Adhikari said, adding that the BJP was not merely aiming for a change in political leadership but sought a transformation in governance and the overall system.

He further stated that under the new administration there would be no place for syndicates, “cut money” practices or mafia rule, and claimed that anti-national activities would not be tolerated in the state.
