The Delhi High Court on Tuesday granted one-week interim bail to jailed Lok Sabha MP Sheikh Abdul Rashid, popularly known as Engineer Rashid, so that he can visit his ailing father.

A bench comprising Justices Prathiba M Singh and Madhu Jain said Rashid may either stay at his home or visit the hospital where his father is undergoing treatment during the bail period.

The court directed that two police personnel in plain clothes would remain with him throughout the interim bail period. It also clarified that Rashid would not have to bear the travel expenses of the accompanying officials.

The bench further ordered that no unnecessary visitors would be allowed during the week, except immediate family members.

The order came while hearing Rashid’s appeal challenging a trial court decision of April 24 that had rejected his request for interim bail.

Rashid, the Baramulla MP from Jammu and Kashmir who defeated Omar Abdullah in the 2024 Lok Sabha elections, is facing trial in a terror-funding case. He has been accused of financing separatist elements and militant groups in Jammu and Kashmir.

He has remained lodged in Tihar Jail since 2019 after being arrested by the National Investigation Agency in connection with the 2017 terror-funding case.
