In a post on X, Shah said the decision would help raise farmers’ income, make agriculture more profitable, and strengthen the rural economy.

“Farmers' welfare is the topmost priority of the Modi government,” he said.

Shah added that the Cabinet’s move to ensure at least a 50 per cent margin over farmers’ production costs was an important step toward boosting agricultural profitability and rural prosperity.

The Cabinet Committee on Economic Affairs, chaired by Prime Minister Narendra Modi, approved revised MSPs for 14 kharif crops for the 2026-27 marketing season.

Among the crops, farmers are estimated to receive the highest margin over production cost in moong at 61 per cent. Bajra and maize are expected to provide margins of 56 per cent each, while tur/arhar offers an estimated 54 per cent margin. The remaining crops are projected to provide margins of around 50 per cent.
