BJP leader Dilip Ghosh on Wednesday alleged that foreign agents are attempting to destabilise Bangladesh, asserting that it is the responsibility of the ruling dispensation to restore peace and stability in the country.

Speaking to ANI, Ghosh said the foremost challenge before Bangladesh at present is the restoration of peace, a task he said lies with the Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP).

“Everyone knows that foreign agents are working to destabilise Bangladesh. The current government and the Prime Minister are also aware of this. The biggest challenge is to establish peace. The people of Bangladesh have suffered a lot and want peace and progress. That is why they voted the BNP to power, and it is now the party’s responsibility to ensure stability,” he said.

His remarks come in the wake of Bangladesh’s 2026 general election held on February 12, which marked a significant political shift. The BNP secured a decisive mandate, winning over 200 seats in the 300-member Jatiya Sangsad.

The election followed years of political turmoil, including the 2024 uprising that led to the ouster of former Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina. Jamaat-e-Islami, which had earlier been allied with the BNP, contested independently this time and emerged as the second-largest party, positioning itself as the principal opposition.

BNP chairman Tarique Rahman was sworn in as the Prime Minister of Bangladesh on Tuesday. The oath of office was administered by President Mohammed Shahabuddin at the South Plaza of the National Parliament Building.

According to a report by Prothom Alo, the BNP’s return to power follows what it described as an “absolute victory” in the 13th National Parliament election, ending a two-decade gap since the party last governed between 2001 and 2006. The newly formed cabinet is also notable for the inclusion of several new faces.
