Heavy to extremely heavy rain lashed several parts of Rajasthan with Sunel in Jhalawar recording a staggering 300 mm of rainfall in the past 24 hours ending Tuesday morning, the weather department said.

The department has warned of more intense rain over the next 48 hours as the southwest monsoon remains active.

According to the Meteorological Centre, Jaipur, a low-pressure area continued to persist over northwestern Madhya Pradesh on Tuesday, while the monsoon was passing through Bikaner and the low-pressure area.

Under its influence, extremely heavy rainfall was recorded in Jhalawar, while Bundi and Kota districts received very heavy rainfall. Heavy rain was also recorded at isolated places in Banswara and Didwana districts.

According to the weather department, Sunel recorded the highest rainfall of 300 mm during the 24-hour period.

On Tuesday, moderate rain with isolated heavy to very heavy showers is likely in parts of the Kota, Udaipur, Ajmer and Jaipur divisions, while some areas of the Bharatpur, Bikaner and Jodhpur divisions may receive moderate to heavy rainfall.

Moderate rain with isolated heavy showers is expected in parts of the Jaipur, Bharatpur, Ajmer, Kota, Udaipur, Jodhpur and Bikaner divisions on Wednesday.

The weather department has also warned of heavy rainfall at isolated places and extremely heavy rain at one or two places in southeastern Rajasthan on Wednesday.

Rainfall activity is likely to decline from August 13, with light to moderate showers expected at some places and isolated heavy rain in eastern Rajasthan, it said.

Rainfall activity is expected to decrease over most parts of the Jodhpur, Udaipur and Ajmer divisions from August 14, though moderate rainfall may occur at some places in the northwestern, northern and eastern parts of the state.

From August 15, a significant decline in rainfall activity is expected over most parts of Rajasthan, except the northern and northeastern areas, according to the forecast.
