India has intensified high-level diplomatic outreach to address the escalating conflict in West Asia, with the government emphasising de-escalation, regional stability, and protection of global trade routes.

Speaking at a briefing, MEA spokesperson Randhir Jaiswal said Prime Minister Narendra Modi has been in constant touch with world leaders to discuss the deteriorating situation.

Engagement with Iran

Jaiswal highlighted a recent conversation between Modi and President of Iran, during which the Prime Minister conveyed greetings for Eid and Nowruz and expressed hope for “peace, stability and prosperity” in the region.

During the talks, Modi also raised concerns over attacks on non-combatants and critical infrastructure, signalling India’s firm stance against escalation.

Strong message on infrastructure attacks

India has condemned strikes targeting key installations across the Gulf, warning that such actions:

Threaten regional stability

Disrupt global supply chains

Increase risks to energy security worldwide

“The Prime Minister condemned attacks on critical infrastructure in the region,” Jaiswal said.

Focus on maritime security

With tensions impacting crucial sea routes like the Strait of Hormuz, India stressed the need to keep shipping lanes open and secure.

“The Prime Minister reiterated the importance of safeguarding freedom of navigation,” the MEA said, underlining the strategic importance of uninterrupted maritime trade for global commerce.

Indian diaspora remains priority

India also raised concerns about the safety of its large diaspora in the region. Modi appreciated Iran’s support in ensuring the welfare and security of Indian nationals residing there.
