India has successfully carried out the flight trial of an advanced variant of the Agni missile equipped with Multiple Independently Targetable Re-entry Vehicle (MIRV) technology, marking a significant milestone in the country’s strategic deterrence capabilities.
The Ministry of Defence said the missile system was successfully tested on May 8 from APJ Abdul Kalam Island off the coast of Odisha.
MIRV technology enables a single missile to carry and deploy multiple warheads, each capable of striking different targets independently across a wide geographical area.
According to the ministry, the missile was flight-tested with multiple payloads aimed at spatially distributed targets across the Indian Ocean Region.
