Shopian
Shopian Police have busted an intra-UT terror financing module and arrested 10 alleged terrorist associates following an investigation into suspected financial networks linked to terrorist activities, police said on Friday.
During the investigation, police analysed suspicious online financial transactions conducted through various payment platforms and traced money trails across multiple layers. The probe revealed a wider network of individuals allegedly involved in terror financing and having links with terrorists and their associates lodged in different jails.
The arrested individuals have been identified as Owais Shafi Naikoo, Tajamul Ahmad Shah, Moiz Iqbal, Imdad Yousuf Ganie, Saqib Zahoor Wani, Aamir Ahmad Ganie, Firdous Thokar, Liyaqat Nazir Lone, Mohd Hanief and Kaju.
Accordingly, FIR No. 231/2026 has been registered at Police Station Shopian under relevant sections of law.
According to the initial investigation, the accused were allegedly collecting funds clandestinely from the general public and channelising the money through established financial networks to facilitate the activities of Lashkar-e-Taiba (LeT) and The Resistance Front (TRF).
The funds were also allegedly being used to provide logistical support, including smartphones, to further terrorist activities, police said.
Further investigation is underway to ascertain the wider network, establish additional financial linkages and identify other individuals involved in the module. Police said more arrests were expected.
The operation was part of the efforts of J&K Police, in coordination with other security agencies, to dismantle terror-support networks and disrupt unlawful financial channels across the Union Territory.
The arrest comes in an effort to counter terrorism after India on Wednesday strongly urged greater efforts by the international community to counter and eradicate terrorism in every shape and form, reaffirming its resolute stance that terror financing and cross-border terrorism must be held accountable.
