Surinder Choudhary, Deputy Chief Minister of Jammu and Kashmir, on Sunday said the region’s historic victory in the Ranji Trophy will inspire young sportspersons across the Union Territory.

Choudhary, along with Sports Minister Satish Sharma, felicitated members of the Jammu and Kashmir cricket team at the Maulana Azad Stadium in Jammu.

Led by veteran cricketer Paras Dogra, the team secured its maiden Ranji Trophy title after drawing the final against eight-time champions Karnataka cricket team while taking a decisive 291-run first-innings lead in the match played in Hubballi on February 28.

“This historic victory will serve as a major inspiration for aspiring sportspersons across Jammu and Kashmir. The success of our cricket team proves that with determination and hard work, the youth of the region can achieve excellence at the national level,” Choudhary said.

Sports Minister Satish Sharma also congratulated the players and coaching staff for their outstanding performance throughout the tournament.

“This victory is not just a cricketing achievement but a moment of pride for the entire Jammu and Kashmir. Our players have shown that with dedication, discipline and the right support, athletes from J&K can excel at the highest level,” he said.

Sharma added that the government remains committed to strengthening sports infrastructure and creating more opportunities for young athletes in the Union Territory.
