A Kashmiri Pandit whose family had never left Kashmir even as most of his community members had left the Valley, was shot dead close to his house in Chowdari Gund village of Shopian, south Kashmir.

Identified as Puran Krishan Bhat, he was taken to hospital in a profusely bleeding state where he was declared as “brought dead.”

"Terrorists fired upon a civilian (minority) Puran Krishan Bhat while he was on his way to an orchard in Chowdari Gund, Shopian. He was immediately shifted to hospital for treatment where he succumbed," the Jammu Kashmir police said.

The area has been cordoned off and a search was in progress, the police further said.

The video clippings of his house show a big crowd of Muslims gathered there.

His body is being taken to Jammu for cremation.

The act of terrorism has been widely condemned by all sections of society.

Reacting on the killing of Kashmiri Pandit in Shopian Grand Mufti Nasir ul Islam said ” It is deplorable and condemnable. Such acts cannot be accepted by a humane and sane society and will disturb the peace and harmony of Kashmir.

"The innocent killing of any human amounts to killing of all humanity. I stand behind the family of deceased and express my sympathy with them.”
