Kerala polls: Farmers flag agrarian distress, wildlife conflict, seek remedy

Kochi

The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) on Thursday announced its first list of 88 candidates for the upcoming Assam Assembly elections, with Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma set to contest from the Jalukbari constituency.

Among the notable names, former Congress leader Pradyut Bordoloi has been fielded from Dispur after recently joining the BJP. Similarly, Bhupen Kumar Borah, another recent entrant from the Congress, will contest from Bihpura.

The party has also nominated Madhavi Das from Birsing-Jarua, Jyotsana Kalita from Chamaria, and Nilima Devi from Mangaldai.

The candidate list was finalised during a meeting of the BJP’s Central Election Committee, chaired by party president Nitin Nabin. The meeting was attended by senior leaders including Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Home Minister Amit Shah, and Defence Minister Rajnath Singh, along with other key members of the party.

State BJP president Dilip Saikia was also present during the deliberations.
