Union Minister for Minority Affairs Kiren Rijiju on Monday visited the Ajmer Sharif Dargah, where he offered a chadar and prayed for peace, compassion and harmony across the country and the world. His visit coincided with the ongoing Urs celebrations, which draw lakhs of devotees to the revered Sufi shrine.

Speaking to reporters after offering prayers at the dargah of Hazrat Khwaja Moinuddin Hasan Chishti, Rijiju said he felt fortunate to visit Ajmer Sharif once again. “Today, we are here to offer a chadar and pray for peace in society and the nation,” he said.

The minister noted that Ajmer Sharif functions under an Act of Parliament and said it was his responsibility to review its administration and functioning. “There is a lot of work to be done for Ajmer Sharif, and it is my duty to assess everything,” he added.

Rijiju also recalled his previous visits to the shrine, saying he comes every year to seek blessings for the prosperity of the people and the country. “I will pray that harmony and peace prevail and that we all move forward towards a developed India,” he said.

Ajmer Sharif Dargah is among the most revered Sufi shrines in India, attracting millions of devotees from across religions and countries. The annual Urs marks the death anniversary of Khwaja Moinuddin Hasan Chishti and is a significant spiritual event.

Earlier, Rijiju met a Buddhist delegation from Himachal Pradesh at his residence in New Delhi. In a post on X, he described the interaction with representatives from Lahaul-Spiti, Kinnaur and Dharamshala as a “warm and meaningful exchange rooted in harmony, culture and shared values.”
